Woking Theatre Shows and Venues

Woking Theatre has come alive since the opening of the New Victoria Theatre. The theatre, located at Peacocks Centre, was built in 1992, with the grand opening of the theatre being June 1992.

The theatre is comprised of two theatres: Main Theatre and Rhoda McGaw Theatre.

The theatre offers seating for 1,300 people (all seated) and is split among three main levels:

Upper Circle

Royal Circle

Stalls

These three levels offer ample, comfortable seating for guests of all ages. When entering the theatre, you’ll find that the Royal Circle and Stalls both offer seating options for the disabled. When there’s an orchestra pit present, the venue will remove the first three rows in the stalls to allow for ample room for the orchestra to play.

Rhoda McGaw Theatre

The Rhoda McGaw Theatre is part of the New Victoria Theatre complex. Small in size, the theatre has 228 seats across 9 rows of seating. A flat stage allows for 58′ of space wall to wall. The Woking Drama Association hosts the Woking Drama Festival at the theatre.

Construction of the theatre began in 1973 and was part of the Woking Centre Halls.

The theatre opened in 1975 and was a vital part of Woking for 13 years. In the 1980s, the theatre became a part of life for people in Woking. Demolition work of the Centre Halls began in 1988 and closed the Rhoda.

The theatre remained closed until 1992 when the New Victoria Theatre opened at the same time.

Few adaptations were made to the theatre during its closure.

Rhoda is home to many amateur performances, from the WDA to dance and drama groups, and schools across the UK. The smaller seating arrangements allow the theatre to be a good choice for amateur performances in Woking.

Major renovations of the Rhoda began in 2012, with a major overhaul and refurbishment of the facilities. The major expense ensures that the theatre remains operational for another 40 years or more without the need for new refurbishments.
