Legally Blonde The Musical
Legally Blonde is back on the big stage in the musical. Elle Woods comes to the stage with a passion to make her dreams come true. Former homecoming queen, Woods got by in life with her good looks and charm, but it wasn’t enough for her boyfriend who left her for someone more “serious.”
Woods does what any woman would do: takes on the impossible task of going to Harvard Law.
The beautiful blonde has traded her life of credit cards to keep her head in the books and pursue a life of law. Reese Witherspoon played the role of Elle Woods in the hit movie, but Lucie Jones will take on the role of Woods in the musical.
Jones has played the role of Woods just a year ago and will reprise her role in the new UK tour. She has an extensive resume with Jones recently starring in Rent. She has also been in Les Misérables and We Will Rock You.
Jones, a native of Pentyrch, first made headlines when she appeared on The X Factor UK in 2009. She is now representing the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017. She has a voice that is perfect for the musical’s two acts.
Act I starts with Woods still in UCLA trying to find the perfect dress – which she does find. Emmett Forrest, a law teaching assistant, is the only one to help Woods as she chases her ex-boyfriend at Harvard Law School.
Woods has a terrible realization that being blonde is causing her trouble in school, and she dyes her hair to become a brunette. She defeats her ex in a classroom debate and she finds out at the end of the Act that she has secured an internship.
Act II begins with Elle and friends watching a fitness workout video.
The story of Elle’s life has captivated audiences since the movie hit the big screen. Jones lends her singing skills to the musical as Woods breaks out into songs during most of the musical’s memorable moments.
The production does include Bruiser and Rufus, two dogs who will grace the stage.
Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin provide the music and lyrics for the show. Heather Hach is the show’s production director.
Legally Blonde is an all dancing and singing romantic comedy that will also feature Bill Ward as Jones’ counterpart. The show will run through June 2018 with shows in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
